right after i posted about our visit to the jantzen beach carousel, i got an email from gorman and everett's mom (remember them?) saying that she had fond memories of riding the carousel as a child and was broken hearted about it closing. her parents were going to be in town and she'd love to get photos of her whole family there. hello, of course i'd love to! we got there bright and early one morning and rode around about five times. these were mostly all taken while the carousel was moving (and it's a fast one!) and i spent half the time hanging off the side of it holding on with one hand like a crazy person. i just loved how big everett is now with his perfectly round litte-bald-head and sunglasses tee and i loved seeing gorman, cheerful and content and giving his mama kisses. and of course, i love photographing families doing something special and significant to them.
again, the carousel is closing for good on april 22nd. the last ride will be at 6pm. the oregonian recently ran a piece claiming that it will restored and open with the rest of the new jantzen beach in 2013 (based on a press release from the developer) but the official plans still do not have a location specified for it - not even any possible space at all - so i sincerely doubt that there are really any plans for it. if any of you have any legitimate information to reassure me, please let me know! and if you're as disappointed as i am, please call the jantzen beach mall office 503.286.9103 and let them know that you want it saved!
